I have run into a surprising number of people who seem to feel that their website exists solely as a type of online brochure. All they ask of their site is that it provide information to the people they send to it via business cards and printed advertising or newsletters.

This is short-sighted AND a big fat waste of money! You can only reach so many people with your business cards, brochures and newsletters. Your website can reach millions/billions/trillions! It should be bringing you customers all on its own, new customers that you have never met, to whom you have never handed a business card.

I eat, sleep and breathe websites. More specifically, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for websites. It's sort of a curse really, it's gotten so I can't visit a website without noting the SEO deficiencies (i.e. Index page doesn't mention WHERE you are, keywords are all within graphics, no Alt Image tags etc. etc. etc.!!!)

Many of these deficiencies are minor but they start to add up and, best of all, they are easy to fix. When all your SEO ducks are in a row you can bet the search engines will take notice.
